The Texas Navy Association - The First Texas Navy was established in 1835, and the Second Texas Navy was established in 1837. In 1958, Texas Governor Price Daniel reactivated the Texas Navy with the purpose of "assuring the survival of Texas' Naval history, boundaries, water resources, and for the civil defense of Texas." In 1973, the Texas Legislature authorized the charter of the Texas Navy, Inc., as the official body to oversee the operation of the Texas Navy. In 2005 the name Texas Navy Association was adopted. Squadron Thoughts: (many of these have likely already been addressed) Location Location Location - Can we use Texas Corinthian Yacht Club perhaps? If so will we need to ensure to always have a member of TCYC in the squadron? Service project - properly scaled for the funding and manpower we have available. Complete an online course of study for a certificate and a certain level of membership - ensign? Activity for BSA, GSUSA, Sea Scouts, etc. Develop classroom presentation package that members can deliver. Support for local nautical organizations such as Texas Seaport Museum, Galveston Seafarers Center. Have your boat designated a vessel of the 3rd Texas Navy -- fundraising. Scholarship - Endowed scholarship at TAMUG. Scholarship(s) for someone studying to teach Texas History. Establishment of our own Texas Navy Museum. Uniform

Texas Navy This page serves a twofold purpose. Primarily it is a place for me to organize my thoughts about the formation of a local Texas Navy Association Squadron in the Kemah area. Secondly, I hope to be able to formulate lesson plans and activities to supplement Texas history Textbooks.
