Poor Old Man

I say, old man, your horse will die
refr. And I say so, and I know so.
I say, old man, your horse will die,
   refr. Oh, poor old man!

And if he dies we'll tan his skin,

And if he lives we'll ride him agin!

We'll hoist him at the main yardarm,

And now he's dead we'll bury him deep,

Thanks we give and adoration For Thy gospel's joyful sound; May the fruits of Thy salvation In our hearts and lives abound. Ever faithful, ever faithful To Thy truth may we be found.
- Fawcett, John (1740-1817), altered
