Seeking the Kingdom
by Dr. Tim Blair

As I was reading the scriptures this morning I suddenly received a revelation of a very important kingdom principle that I had been wrestling with for years. It was a passage I read many times before, but had never completely understood. I wondered why it took me so long to receive insight about it. It lead me to another question; why do some people seem to grow quickly in their walk with God, while others seem to struggle for years over the simple concepts of the Bible?

As I was meditating on this, a verse came to mind where Jesus told his disciples, "Don't cast your pearls before swine." Jesus was referring to the fact that not everyone would appreciate the value of the things of God. Nor would everyone be prepared to understand them. We are to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit when we evangelize. Then it occurred to me that if Jesus told that to His disciples then God must use the same principle in  determining when to give revelation knowledge to His children. I suddenly thought of another pearl, a pearl of great price. The one who received it sold all that he had to buy it.

Then I knew I was onto something. We are to seek after wisdom as hidden treasure. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, "and without faith it is impossible to please God , because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him." (Heb. 11:6)

The world knows how to go after hidden treasure. A treasure hunter spends his money on treasure hunting equipment. He gives up his TV time and his Sunday afternoon naps to dig for treasure. He doesn't quit after the first day. He knows the treasure is there and he keeps digging until he finds it. He may get up early and stay up late, even skip a meal or two to make more progress.

Christians, it seems, for the most part, believe on Christ so as to be saved, then want the rest of the Christian life dumped in their lap. It doesn't work that way. God rewards earnest desire. Desire is demonstrated by sacrifice and persistence. We must desire Him above all things.

Jesus died to redeem us and restore the broken relationship we had with God. Relationship is first and foremost on God 's mind. He wants to know how important that relationship is to us.

All of life flows out of our relationship with God. He is the vine; we are the branches. We can only produce fruit that will last if we obtain our life source from the vine. "For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." (Col. 3:3) "For in Him we live and move and have our being." (Acts 17:28) "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent." (John 17:3)

Paul gave up his life for the gospel, "in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Col 2:3) If we want the best God has to offer we must become treasure hunters. And, in the end, we will have found Him.
