 Witnessing to Non-Believers
Metal detecting gives the Christian Treasure Hunter opportunities to interact with other people.  This is an excellent opportunity to share with others what the Lord has done in our lives.  Witnessing to non-believers can sometimes be an awkward experience.  Occasionally the conversation simply does not turn towards spiritual things.  When witnessing, we are trying find that hole in their life that was set aside for God but that they've tried to fill with something else (money, sex, posessions, power, earthly treasure, etc.).  When we find that hole in their life, we can then go on to tell how God loves them and desires to have a relationship with them...how God wants to fill that hole and only he can.  How do we find that hole?  We talk to them.

Starting and carrying on a conversation with a complete stranger is not everyone's cup of tea, though.  A method that was taught to me by a biker friend was to "Fill out the FORM."

You take the letters in the word "FORM" to be an acrostic representing the words

Talk or ask about their Family.  Are you married? How long? Kids? Etc.
Talk or ask about their Occupation. A major portion of everyone's life revolves around work.
Talk about what they like to do when they're not at work, for Recreation.  What do you do for fun?
And if none of these seem to nurture the conversation, you can always talk about Metal Detecting.

In talking to a person, you are finding out where their love is and what their motivations are.  This will help you discover what their 'god' is.  You can then share with them how the Lord wants that most special place in their hearts.  Listen and be attentive to what people say to you.  Listen to and trust the Holy Spirit to guide you as you share the love of Christ.  Don't assume that everyone is a believer.  Assume that everyone you talk to is unsaved until you find out otherwise.

The Treasure
If I had to think of one thing all people have in common, I think I`d say that we all have a deep desire to be loved, cherished, and appreciated by others.

Sadly , life has dealt many of us cards that have left us feeling anything but loved and cherished. Some have been victims of every kind of abuse imaginable from the very beginning. Others don`t really know where it all went wrong , but clearly , it went wrong somewhere....

Many have decided that there`s nothing lovable or desirable about themselves , therefore they have given up the idea of ever being loved.  Others keep "shooting in the dark" , hoping they`ll eventually find the love that`s missing in their lives.

I don`t know where you are in your relationships , but I know that you have a deep desire to be loved and cherished. That`s why I want you to know that you are loved, you are cherished, and you are of great value!

You are of such value that one man saw you as a TREASURE and HE said with great joy, " I want the treasure to be mine."  So he gave away the best , most valuable thing  He had so that you could be His.

Who is this man? This man is God . He gave His only Son , Jesus, the very best thing He had , so that you could be His. He loves you and He cherishes you. There is no love greater than His Love for You...

You see, God knows that "all have sinned and come short of His glory." He also knows that "the wages of sin is death." That is why "while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." He even said, "If you confess with your mouth that 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

This simple decision of your heart can make "old things pass away and all things become new."

This would be a good time for you to give your life over to Jesus for a new start. Commit to Jesus, He's committed to you.

Prayer:

Dear God thank you that I'm worth something in your eyes. Thank you that you sent Jesus to die on the cross so that I could be saved from sin and saved from hell. I invite you into my heart right now: come in and be the Lord of my life. Forgive me of my sins and give me a new life in Christ Jesus. Thank you God for Saving me and coming into my life . In Jesus' name, Amen.

I eventually intend to have a gospel track printed for metal detectorists to hand out.  If you'd like to order a supply for yourself, e.mail me at bberlin@sat.net and I will send you a sample or supply.  They shouldn't cost too much to print up.   I also hope to have Christian Treasure Hunters Association personal business cards printed up for whoever would like them.  They can have your name and personal info. on the front (no businesses, please) and will have a plan of salvation on the back.  Business cards make great gospel tracks because few people will ever refuse to take your card, and they almost always flip it over to read the back.
