Bugle calls and marches
Below you will find my budding collection of bugle calls and marches. This is an ongoing project. If you have any printed or recorded bugle calls you would like to add to this collection (which will remain available to all buglers free of charge), please send them to me. I would love to post them here.
This is a work in progress (which has already grown much larger than I anticipated). I realize there are many errors and omissions. Feel free to contribute.
While the vast majority of tunes are written in proper staff notation, some tunes are written in what I've termed "bugle clef". I find it easiest to quickly write out a tune using a single staff line as such:

Abbreviations: A Army USA, AA Artillery USA, AAL Australian Air League, BI British Infantry and Mounted Infantry, BMC British Mounted Corps, BSA Boy Scouts of America, C Cavalry USA, CH Coach Horn, DBC Deutcher Bracken-Club, E Emergency, EP English Post (postal service), I Infantry USA, N Navy USA, PLI Prussian Light Infantry, R Routine, RAN Royal Australian Navy, RCS Revenue Cutter Service, SH Swiss Hunting Calls, USMC United States Marine Corps.
In order to add more functionality, I am converting this page to be generated from a database, rather than simply listing all the tunes available.

The charge in column is executed by the squadron broken with distance. To execute the charge as foragers, all the troopers of the squadron disperse, and direct themselves each upon the point he wishes to attack, observing not to lose sight of their officers, who charge with them. The squadron being in line, the first captain orders the sabres to be drawn, and the platoons to charge one after another, commencing by the right. For this purpose the first Captain advances 240 paces to the front, taking a trumpeter with him; and when he wishes the movement to commence, he causes a signal to be given. The platoon moves forward at the command of its chief, as prescribed, No. 569. It passes successively from the walk to the trot, and from the trot to the gallop, and from the gallop to the charge. | Degüello, El | See "Carga ó Deguello". El Degüello is a bugle call of Moorish origin notable in its use by the Mexican Army during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. According to James A. Michener's book Texas, the original meaning of the Degüello call was an appeal to an enemy to surrender or else they would die by the sword. General Antonio López de Santa Anna of the Mexican Army used it to signify that no quarter would be given to the enemy. According to various English-Spanish dictionaries, El Degüello means no mercy. The literal translation is slit-throat. Michener's book translates it as The Beheading. | Discuss | |||||||

| Evening Colors | ♫ | 120 | N | R | Routine—this call (also known as Retreat) is sounded by the Bugler at sundown each evening during the flag-lowering ceremony at all naval stations, marine barracks, naval or marine camps, and aboard ship. Prior to the beginning of the ceremony, Attention is sounded by the Bugler. After a short pause he sounds Evening Colors. The flag leaves the peak or truck at the first note of the call and is lowered at a speed which will bring it to the arms of the flag guard with the last note of the call. Upon completion of Evening Colors the Bugler sounds Carry On. When a band is present at the ceremony the procedure described above is followed, except that the flag is lowered while the band plays the national anthem. The national anthem follows Evening Colors in the ceremony and is followed by Carry On sounded on the bugle. | Manual for Buglers U.S. Navy 1953 | Discuss | ||

| Honors 123 | ♫ | 120 | N | R | in the absence of a band the Bugler may be required to sound Honors and the Flag Officer’s March to salute a visiting dignitary. Honors are rendered by giving the number of flourishes prescribed by Navy Regulations for the rank of the honored official. Navy Regulations provide that four flourishes be given to the President of the United States, an ex-President, the Vice President, a member of the President’s Cabinet, Under Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Chief Justice, ambassadors, the governor of a state or of a territory or possession of the United States, the President pro tempore of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congressional committees, admirals and generals of four star rank or above, and personages of similar rank from a foreign government, including members of a reigning royal family. Three flourishes are sounded for envoys extraordinary, vice admirals, and lieutenant generals of the United States, and officials of foreign governments holding similar ranks. Two flourishes are sounded for ministers resident or diplomatic representatives, rear admirals, and major generals of the United States, and for officials of foreign countries holding similar ranks.
