Telling Others About Jesus

Motorcycling gives the Christian many opportunities to interact with other people.  This is an excellent opportunity to share with others what the Lord has done in our lives.  Witnessing to non-believers can sometimes be an awkward experience.  Sometimes the conversation simply does not turn towards spiritual things.  When witnessing, we are trying find that hole in their life that was set aside for God but that they've tried to fill with something else (money, sex, posessions, power, earthly treasure, etc.).  When we find that hole in their life, we can then go on to tell how God loves them and desires to have a relationship with them...how God wants to fill that hole and only he can.  How do we find that hole?  We talk to them.

Starting and carrying on a conversation with a complete stranger is not everyone's cup of tea, though.  A method that was taught to me by a biker friend was to "Fill out the FORM."

You take the letters in the word "FORM" to be an acrostic representing the words

  • Family
  • Occupation
  • Recreation
  • Motorcycles
Talk or ask about their Family.  Are you married? How long? Kids? Etc.
Talk or ask about their Occupation. A major portion of everyone's life revolves around work.
Talk about what they like to do when they're not at work, for Recreation.  What do you do for fun?
And if none of these seem to nurture the conversation, you can always talk about Motocycles

In talking to a person, you are finding out where their love is and what their motivations are.  This will help you discover what their 'god' is.  You can then share with them how the Lord wants that most special place in their hearts.  Listen and be attentive to what people say to you.  Listen to and trust the Holy Spirit to guide you as you share the love of Christ.  Don't assume that everyone is a believer.  Assume that everyone you talk to is unsaved until you find out otherwise.

Christian tracks (brochures with the plan of salvation) are available from the Christian Motorcyclists Association.  You can order them from the Toolbox page of the CMA website.  If you are unfamiliar with the CMA tracks, you can order a variety pack which has about 10 of each.   You can also call CMA's order line (800)300-6530 during business hours 8:30-5:00 M-F.  If you need to talk to CMA for any other reason call (870)389-6196.
