Secular Motorcycle Clubs
People, especially Christian motorcyclists, often tell me that they've
changed their ways and have dropped out of their motorcycle club to join
CMA or some other ministry. I've even had people challenge me by
questioning whether I was "in or out", so to speak, regarding the ministry.
It simply didn't dawn on them that one can be a member of a secular motorcycle
club AND a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association.
I must pause to explain my definition of a "secular" motorcycle club.
By secular, I simply mean a group whose focus is not Jesus Christ.
It is the opposite of the word "sacred." I would consider the song
"Amazing Grace" to be a sacred song while a song like "Deep in the Heart
of Texas" would be considered to be of a secular nature. I use the
word secular to refer to club's whose focus is not Jesus Christ.
I personally feel that as a Christians, we shouldn't withdraw from the
world. I feel that we should go into the darkest corners of the world
and shine the Light of Jesus. We should chase the darkness away.
I've made it a personal mission of mine to be available to any member of
my local secular motorcycle club. Over the past few years since I've
been in CMA, I've tried to present myself as a servant to the club so that
people will see a humble, Christ-like spirit in me. When the Holy
Spirit starts tugging on a person's heart, I want them to know that I will
be there for them and will support them, pray with them, and offer any
wisdom I have to them.
CMA is not a club. It is a ministry. What good is a ministry
that does not go out and minister?
Some would say that some clubs are too bad to hang around with (e.g.
1% type clubs). Well, I'll leave that decision up to each of you.
I would like to remind you of the parable that Jesus told about the shepherd
who left the 99 sheep to go out to look for the 1 that was lost.
Simply put, if not you and me...then who?
For this reason, if a conflict comes up where there is a secular rally
in conflict with a CMA rally and I'm not assured that there will be a significant
Christian presence at the secular rally, I will opt for that one over the
secular rally. We are here to serve the Lord and to share his message
of our redemption through Christ Jesus. All we can say is "yes Lord,
send me."
By the way, I wear CMA colors on my back.
