Bagpipes Of all the instruments I've learned to play (and the list is extensive), I've never found an instrument I love as much as the Great Highland Bagpipes. I began learning to play the pipes in 2005. I was taught by William T. "Robbie" Robertson III, who was taught by his father Wm. Robertson, who was taught during his time with the Scots Guard. I am presently Pipe Major of Clear Lake Caledonian Pipe Band. Here my current tune repertoire list. My pipes are made by Wm Sinclair & Son, Lieth, Scotland. My best estimate is that they were made sometime around the early 1970s. My drone reeds are Shepherd SM-90s. My chanter reed varies. Sometimes I use Shepherds, usually I use the lightest available house brand from my dealer. I have an L&M hide bag. My main chanter is the old wooden Sinclair. It tunes a little flat compared with modern chanters. However, it has a wonderfully mellow sound. When I play with other pipers, I use a plastic MacLellan CD-B band chanter. I also have a concert Bb MacAllum chanter. I bought this intending to use it when I play along with my church orchestra / organ. It has a very nice sound. I wear MacFarlane modern red tartan. My paternal grandmother was a McFarland. (See me genealogy page if interested.) Links |
